Not no news

  • Just got back from the Emergeny Veterinary Clinic in Moraine. I had hit Speck full-force in the eye with his latest favorite toy, a Kong tennis-ball dumbbell. He likes daddy to throw it and bounce it off the wall at the top of the stairs so it goes bouncing all the way downstairs. So i threw it hard, but he’d gotten a head start and i popped him right in the eye. No permanent damage, just blunt trauma to the eye – mainly just discomfort. He seems fine now, but we’re out $164 – which digs into our rent, unfortunately. I feel like such an asshole right now.
  • I’ve just started playing Anarchy Online. It’s pretty cool, and you can play the non-expanded version for free. I’m a froobie.
  • I’ve STILL got that damn cough. It’s just not going away. It’s a little better now, though. And when i take my antibiotics, which i’ve been on for a couple of weeks now, i get nauseated and sleepy. I hate this.
  • And i’ve been depressed as hell lately about my life. I’m trying so hard, but i’m going nowhere. I’ve applied at so many places in the last few months that it’s not even funny. I rarely ever seem to get any response. I’ve had a single interview in the last couple of months. It went well, but it looks as if that employer is going to be extending an offer to an earlier candidate.
  • My voter registration has FINALLY been processed. I’m all set to help Obama get elected to the Presidency of the United States.

And, if you haven’t seen it already, check out the Sarah Palin prank call:

Unfortunately, the XBox is dead. Just when we brought home used copies of Skate and Beautiful Katamari.

Fortunately, Holly aced her very first practice for the maneuverability test.

Points if you got the reference.

Spore

Will Wright is an incredible genius! The man behind the “Sim” games, his new game, Spore, is most definitely going to be the most amazing and mind-blowing game ever created. It will be a very, very, very long time before anybody ever tops this one. Watch the entire video to get a sense of the sheer godawful scope of this gargantuan thing. Mere words simply cannot do it justice.

Anti-corporate prankster group jakes McDonalds at UK games conference

Andrew Shimery-Wolf of “McDonald’s Interactive” gave a bizarre presentation at the UK Serious Games summit, where game developers meet to discuss games made for corporate and educational use. The presentation focused on the potentially devastating climate changes brought about by shady corporate practices.

According to Shimery-Wolf, the group had created McMarketplace, a simulation of the global effects of the burger business. It worked well for training, but in long-term predictions, business ended in 2050, when everyone died due to climate change and dead earth. (source)

They also announced that McDonald’s Interactive was splitting off from the McDonald’s parent company.
“We can no longer stand by while McDonald’s corporate policies help lead the planet to ruin,” said Shimery-Wolf, co-director of the “Interactive Division”, which supposedly was founded to help strategize business for future markets.

Nobody seems to know who this group really is, or whether or not the organizers of the conference knew what was going to happen, although it’s a safe bet that they didn’t. The group’s domain’s WHOIS resolves to an Italian registrar and the registrant is obviously a fake, with a contact email at mcvideogame.com, a spoof videogame created by political subversives Molleindustria to blast McDonald’s.

Apparently, RTMARK also has something to do with this mysterious and hilarious jake, as a response to a press inquiry was sent from an rtmark.com e-mail address. It seems highly likely, to me at least, that Molleindustria and RTMARK collaborated on this joint venture.

Check out the PowerPoint presentation itself, and watch as this hilarious story develops. For more info, see:

Israeli soldier murders journalist. From a related BBC News story:

“The inquest has heard that Mr Miller approached an armoured personnel carrier, carrying a white flag which he shone a torch on, calling out that he was a British journalist and wearing a helmet marked TV. He was shot in the neck, unprotected by his body armour.

He had been attempting to ask for permission to leave the area.”
