Bono is sucking the toes of the pharmaceutical industry in a ploy to get them to develop an AIDS vaccine, while encouraging other so-called celebrity-activists to do likewise. oddly (horrifically, in fact), only Merck appears to be working on a potential vaccine, which Bono now says may be due to the anti-pharmaceutical-industry activism of himself and his peers. bold move. i hope it works. it seems awfully desperate, but these are desperate times.

the November issue of CMJ (yes, i know it’s December, but this mag is becoming increasingly erratic with its publishing dates) has an excellent sampler, the best they’ve put out in a long time. one caveat: there is one song so incredibly terrible, you’ll be humming it for days. oy vey.

never realized how much i missed this album… Zebra’s 3.V. simply defies categorization. part “hair rock” (though not really hair metal), part power-pop (though with the mids scooped out of the guitars and more than enough synth padding to wash away any remaining crunch), they remain nearly totally unsung. their 2nd album sucked, but 3.V and Zebra Live (which featured a Led Zeppelin song – The Ocean, no less) are albums that can make any day a little brighter.

the best i can describe their sound is with this phrase: “nice rock.”

Same goes for Aldo Nova’s first two records.

started my very first HTML tutorial tonite (for technothrope.com). if interested, the first part is here. also set up the forums and did a couple images for the topics section.

i’m pleased so far with the first tute. it’s insanely basic, though, and as of yet very incomplete.

still having problems with things getting stripped on return from MySQL. right now i have to compose the tutes in a text editor, replace all the apostrophes with HTML character coding because there’s apparently no addslashes function and otherwise it won’t save changes (grrr), then format the html i want visible with the kooky and fairly unpredictable <xmp> tag (wtf is up with that thing anyway? i don’t understand it but it seems to get the job done better than <pre>, <tt>, or even <code>), save, copy and paste it into the ‘thrope’s web-form and submit it to the database. all because of crappy or missing addslash/stripslash functions. so either i find a fix or its back to the books to write one my damn self, a challenge i’m not actually feeling up to at the moment.

as wildly popular as php-Nuke is, version 6.0 seems awfully shoddy to me.

dear god, please somebody tell me they’ll post some articles or tutorials or scripts or SOMEthing. i’m all worn out.

ok, looks like the ‘thrope will be all right after all. it was a problem with single quotes. apparently there was no addslash/stripslash function or something. fixed. looking much better now.

jesus, i’m so miserable and sick right now. not hung over, i’m past that. but i have a cold and i am hating it. plus my right lung feels real crappy. now i REALLY wish i had a steady g/f around, because girls can sometimes have a marvellous effect on misery. and i yearn to be soothed right now. or stabbed to death.

what i want is someone warm and sweet to merge into. still keeping our separate identities, of course. but someone to hold, and to hold me, if for no other reason than to reaffirm our mutual desire to be ALIVE and warm and new and in love, and to fill ourselves with such sweetness as nature herself never even thought up. just someone to cuddle with on good nights, and to hang around and help cope on nights that aren’t so good. even to go away from, on nights that necessitate it.

wow. so it took me well over 10,000 page view tests (!!!), but i’ve got technothrope.com just about ready. i think i will probably find several errors, since an awful lot of the themes were written for older versions of phpNuke, and as such, some of the URLs in the HEADER and FOOTER includes may not actually work. i’ve found quite a few, especially in the form action for the header search box. so if anyone finds any errors, please let me know ASAP. i’m uploading it all right now… it will take a little while to configure the database, and then it will be live. keep in mind that it is still in dev phase.

BE CERTAIN that you play around with the theme selection (under “Your Account”). there’s some killer stuff on there. MAD props to the original creators & designers!!

in this season of thankfulness, do not be too thankful that you’re well off. and don’t wish too much “good” fortune upon drifters and hobos, either. let me tell you why:

drifters and bums and hobos are the only truly Free people in our, or any, society. they abide only by their own code. they sleep, piss, eat, fuck, live, and shit when and where they want to. they pay no taxes! theirs is truly a communist state. not because of any government, either, because most of the time the government doesn’t give them squat. or rather, the government only ever gives them shit. shakedowns, takedowns, crackdowns, breakdowns, and beatdowns… and once in a while a little R & R at the Ironbar Hotel.

i tell you, man, they live FREELY. sure, they go hungry more often than not, and they never have adequate shelter. but what they do have is more important than all of that. ask any one of them why they are homeless, and seven out of ten will tell you they just wanted to be free. the other three or four have hard luck stories to get over… in fact, they all have hard luck stories, but most actually left behind practically normal, even fairly swanky lives. don’t tell them to get a job, because they don’t WANT one. and that’s not such a bad thing… how much do you like where you work, anyway? i mean, really like it?

they’re not lazy, either. those champs really gotta hustle to get some action. any kind of action, too, not just for kicks. food action, sleep action, whatever they wanna do they got to do it right or they’ll get rustled up by the locals. but they’re still Free-er than you or i.

if i were a better man than i am now, i’d go and live amongst these my brothers and sisters and strive toward Nirvana in the same way that they do. maybe someday i’ll have saved up enough real courage and do just that. i’ve always wanted to just drift away and let the wind guide me to my destination anyway.

so if you see me on the streets some day, don’t kick me and tell me to get a job. jobs come with nooses, and i don’t want that. just hold out your hand and take mine, maybe even give me a hug if you can stand my smell, and say, “hey, jer. how are ya? I’ve been thinkin’ about ya, old pal. I’ll tell all the gang that you said hello and that you’re doing all right out here. and maybe you can stop by sometime and I’ll share some grub with ya and we can swap stories about where we’ve both been and what we’ve both seen… listen, have a quarter, I gotta run. well, take it easy, old buddy, and hang in there!”

who knows, maybe when you’re out there, i’ll show you where to go for good scraps or where the best semi-natural outdoor shelter is, or which corners are better to hang around during which hours; which alleys are better for fucking and which ones are more suited for shitting. i might show you how to get to the cheapest liquor store for some kicks, or where to hang out at without being bothered by the cops, or i might tell you where to find some good warm blankets for those long winter nights.

if i ever set myself Free, that is.

ohboyohboyohboy i’m gettin’ there… got all the graphics finished for 46 technothrope.com’s phpNuke themes!! now i’m tweaking the hell out of the HTML. i’ve actually still got 3 themes to translate (just tiny bits) into English, and yet another folder of 37 themes that need to get a little “extra” tweakage (which i may not be technically capable of in some extreme cases, we’ll see… i’ll give it my best shot anyway). so all in all, i’ll have nearly 100 skins available for the fucker!

when i’m done with the HTML for the 46, i’ll have to go through and configure everything. since i’ll be uploading the SQL file anyway, i figure i’ll just go ahead and get some content going locally before i actually upload the thing.

seriously, you really need to see some of these graphics. the only real WORK i had to do was stripping the logo off of crazy backgrounds and replacing them with my own. you’ll soon see what a fuckin’ MASTER i am. i made ’em look PERFECT! most of them, however, were painfully easy. but those ones that had text over top of graphics were a bitch. i actually had to go pixel-by-pixel in some spots. i’m so glad it turned out so good. i mean really, really good, too.

plus, i’m getting really familiar with the basic theme structure… and you know what that means. i’ll get my own themes built once i’ve got the back 40 tilled and stuff.

hell, i may even upload it all tonight, if i’m feelin’ squirrelly. i just really want to show off my handiwork.

i will definitely need some contributors… but not just yet. go ahead and get some stuff together if you want to get some articles up. the name of the game is web design + development. there will also likely be an off-topic section as well, considering my 99 other interests. one of which btw is etymology (just so ya know) (yes, i do read and collect dictionaries and thesaurii) (not that that has a god damned thing to do with anything) (just want you to know how impossibly smart i is) (it doesn’t hurt to have some brains on the other end from that sweet fine ass o’ mine) (hee hee haw) (are my parenthetics buggin’ yew? i don’t mean to BUG ya).

damn, i wish you guys could see this. i’m really doing some amazing work here. so far i’ve somehow managed to change the logos of about FORTY phpNuke themes… seamlessly. some of them also need to get a little HTML tweaking to cope with some of the text and/or graphics of their German-, Portugeuse-, and Spanish-speaking original creators. and still more, like i said earlier, need to have their tables tweaked to compensate for lower screen resolutions.

right now i’m working on a really amazing and beautiful theme (i have to emphasize that it’s not my original work here), but the logos are really really hard to gut and replace. you know, they’re on really complex textured backgrounds. i feel like a secondhand Michelangelo doing this, or else a really good forger.

and STILL i haven’t gotten the time to play around with all the cool functions.

so who wants to play a game involving the IAO + Homeland Security Dept. and civil liberties? i propose that those of us who have our own websites see who can get farther up the google ranking on the phrase “dangerous subversive”.
