i hate computers

why should it be SO FUCKING DIFFICULT simply to run a WAMP server on XP?!!

i’ve opened all necessary ports, i’ve gone as far as disabling all firewalls and antivirus apps. this is driving me fucking crazy.

deathwish Speck

today i had to take a pincushion away from Speck. a jesus christing pincushion! what a horrible idiot that dog can be sometimes. lovable, that’s for sure, but a god damned lousy imbecile.

y’know…? as much as i love dogs, and especially Speck, it’s survival of the fittest, and if this dog ends up killing hisself by eating a running jet engine or doing something else that’s incredibly stupid, i will be both mortified and relieved as well as brokenhearted.

what a god damn moron.

webserver help?

i’m running [either] UniformServer or Virtrigo Server (latest of each). i can’t access localhost. i get:

error ‘8002801c’

Error accessing the OLE registry.

/iisHelp/common/500-100.asp, line 17

i’ve tried outright disabling XP’s and McAfee’s firewalls, and have set both to allow both programs. i tried opening port 80. i’m making sure only one server is running at a time. nothing works. suggestions?

Brokeback Mountain fiasco

so some theatre in Utah canceled Brokeback Mountain.

i don’t even have anything to say about that. i just can’t believe that in 2006, people are STILL so uptight about sex.

we’d rather see violence and other acts of hate than acts of love, generally speaking, and the portrayal of a brave act of socially unacceptable love (remember, it’s a PERIOD piece), in a work of beautifully tragic art, is being kicked around, probably for some bulldada “moral” reason.

come on! seriously, if anyone on my friends list seriously has a problem with this film, please just go ahead and defriend me now. anyone that shitty is beyond reasoning with.

  • nVIDIA GeForce 6100
  • CD/DVD RW
  • 5 USB ports, tons of memory card reader ports, ethernet port, etc.

the paranoid DTs

went to see family. while Kent was here we had a candid discussion of my grandfather’s mental condition. also, my dad found out that his Reglan may be responsible for his statue-like demeanor and general confusion. also, he shouldn’t have been on it for more than 12 weeks. he’s been on the shit for something more like a year.

fuck the health care industry.

also, his physical therapy is stopping, because the agency has deemed it useless. they’ve checked his ass out, and Medicare is, in all likelihood, patting them on the back for doing such a fine job.

fuck the health care industry.

today, now that Grandpa is off of that evil Reglan shit, he’s been going through some sort of delusional, paranoid withdrawal. he’s trying to escape (chair, bed); my dad found him on the floor after he went outside for a few minutes. he had a phone in his hands and was trying to call the police because he was being held captive. he claimed while i was there that my dad and his “co-instigator” (wife Gerry) had taken him out to a shack last night and locked him in (though he admitted that the door was open) for four, no twelve, hours. he called my dad a bastard numerous times, and said such awful things about the poor sacrificing brokenback man that it was just heartbreaking (esp. after all my dad’s done to help him and to get himself all cleaned up and sober and responsible). half the time the only thing that kept me from either cracking up or crying was the ambiguous, contradictory nature of this dual response. i did a little bit of both.

fuck the whole god DAMN health care industry.

speaking of crying, if you’ve had a rough time of it lately, here’s what NOT to do: don’t listen to the late, great Jeff Buckley’s angelic cover of Leonard Cohen’s masterful “Hallelujah” – it always brings me completely down in tears, especially this part:

I’ve seen your flag on the marble arch
but love is not a victory march
it’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah….

this is why i don’t like being around other men

yesterday, just a few minutes before we were to leave for work, Speck came out with what looked to me like a skinny long sausage hanging down from his belly. he’s been chewing on his tail, and maybe ass for all i know, so i of course jumped to the conclusion that he must have bitten through the skin somewhere and his lil’ doggie dick came flopping out in all its raw skinless nakedness.

i was literally running around the apartment, shaking, grieving, freaking the fuck out. “oh my god oh my god oh my god!”

i had a boy dog before, a giant Yorkshire terrier. he NEVER got one of those, and i don’t think he was fixed, either.

we was late for work, too.

Shadow of the Colossus

anybody who owns a PS2 is defeating the purpose of even having the damn thing if they do not run out right away and purchase Shadow of the Colossus.

i am telling you right now; if you die without having ever played this majestic, artful game, do not whine to me about it.

my god, is it ever breathtaking.

intelligence vs design: intelligence wins!

ID gets schooled.

this will not be the first such case, methinks. my Spidey sense is tingling; i think a groundswell is just beginning. i think political swingers and apoliticals and the don’t-know-no-better crowd are finally starting to get sick of the tired old apeshit lunacy of the Right’s message. it has taken a terrible toll (not to mention the spontaneous – and stupefying – creation of a false god), but the Great Pendulum is starting to swing back again.

[this must be the most tags i’ve ever used on a single post.]

dog

well, Baron von Snarlsburg, aka Licky the Wonderpup, really likes to play tug!

i figured, being a dog, that i’d just naturally like him quite a bit. i’m a dog person. but he’s just so tiny… i wanted a big beautiful dumb golden retriever or a lab or something with a lotta roughlove built in.

i had no idea how much i’s gonna fall in love with that tiny little thang. Speck is totally up to snuff. what a wonderful little dog.

one of these days we’re gonna have us a digeral camra so we can post up some pitchurs.

Xmas with the Crunks

for X-mas, Holly got me:

  • Run Lola Run
    • a wonderful, stylish German film about parallel time and choices
  • Harold and Maude
    • the greatest love story ever told on film; very offbeat and with masterful editing/pacing
  • Do The Right Thing
    • there is almost no need for any further investigation into morality and the human condition after this film
    • Holly noted that the famous pivotal scene in which Mookie throws the garbage can through Sal’s shop window was an act of salvation; in doing so, he may have saved Sal’s life
    • RADIO RAHEEM LIVES!!!

three of my favorite films of all time!!!

and gorgeous, sweet little teenytiny Speck, the wonderdog! part Chihuahua, part Jack Russell Terrier, and all playtime fun!

we’re going to watch Godzilla: Final Wars in a bit.

it’s a wonderful life.
