i can’t for the life of me remember what i was going to do :)
oh well. off to bed in a bit. am tiiiiired!
jae lethe (he/she/they) is a blogger, musician, artist, poet, web developer/designer, armchair philosophizer, teller of tales, and gadabout. Also, something he calls a "behavioral artist." (Not sure.) She has plans. BIG plans.
Among the things that he has done for a laugh are minor fractures, cuts, scrapes, and various scabs. Though she's quick to point out that they're no imbecile, we're fairly certain that he thinks the word means some kind of medieval pharmacist.
This is her latest home on teh internets - where jae stores their swear words, when they're not hurling them at the sun in vain.

ok, so here’s the deal:
somehow or other, i ran into this cool chick online (v.recently), and she just lives a couple hours away… i’m finally a subscriber to Feasible Geographics! so anyway, she’s cool, intelligent, creative, fun, liberal, freaky, and (bonus!) hawt.
we Yahooed it up all night last night, and it was nicenicenice :D
(don’t get me wrong – i still hate instant messaging, though.)
…and i am rapidly and increasingly starting to really like this gurl.
so yay!
just a couple little things in the way right now:
1) my car bein’ all dead and stuff
2) need apartment now more than ever! shoulda planned ahead. how was i supposed to know my six-year sexual moratorium was gonna be ending so soon and alla sudden?
3) um, there’s one last thing i kinda want to do beforehand…maybe…
4) i should prolly have a job or something nasty like that. i could use the cash right about now.
5) that damned confounding Planck length. just kidding, i needed five because it’s the law.
gotta clean out my car and take it up to the shop this week fa sho’.
here’s what i found out:
possibly habitable-ish (but not really) moons (w/ atmos):
Europa (good rock/ice ratio) (tenuous oxygen)
Ganymede? (possibly v.thin oxygen)
Io (tenuous sulfur dioxide)
Titan (dense nitrogen and methane)
Triton (tenuous nitrogen and methane)
therefore, i now have backgrounds AND names for new skins.
names:
initial skins (complete):
mars, surface
moon, surface
asteroid, surface
space 1
the mantis’ lair
tourist bureau (cityscape)
new (incomplete):
venus, surface
europa, surface
ganymede, surface
titan, surface
triton, surface
holding cell (chainlink)
still need to make:
io, surface
possibly orbital variations on the above bodies and others
not that this is even remotely interesting to anybody else but me.
right now i am TRYING to do some research on planets/moons/misc. celestial bodies that have or may have atmospheres, so that i can name some of these skins that i’m working on integrating into the mars s.t.s..
does anybody KNOW which moons, planets, etc. have or may have atmospheres?? or know where i can find good, concise, and readable data on this?
p.s., here’s a neat site, if you’re interested.
holy god.
God-Jesus, apparently some kind of weird Japanese toy or something. at least, i hope not.
what happened to General Zod (Superman II)?
ganked from the mighty cool afrodite79
1) making really, really excellent progress on mars s.t.s. – i (with the help of the fine folks over at htmlforums) fixed the menu wrapper’s css.
2) updating marsdev site – where all the latest code is – in just a minute.
3) sorting files now. everything will now be ultraclean and there are now folders galore to keep everything in order. (because chaos can only get you so far in PHP!). index split up into several functionally-specific files, css now goes in its own folder, and soon the images will be sorted as well.
4) okay, enough of this web shit. i can’t take it any more. somebody is getting FUCKED.
5) also, will be getting the new skins done tonight (with the slightest bit of luck). if anyone has any suggestions for what to name them, let me know.
everything is running smoothly… well, almost everything….
aw, shee-it. fell asleep.
new version of Discordian.com is bad-. assed.
…and there’s my 5ive posts for today. too tired to say more.
i seem to be a collector of earthly demigods. there is now a new goddess in my personal pantheon. long live this queen and hail Eris! this is a good 5/23! so uh, yeah. she hits that spot; am floored.
so many of you Good People
have come to the ground
of this Good Earth,
to save us from ourselves,
while we deny any wrongdoings,
trying to outlive the cries of beasts;
and here you be,
suffering,
slightly mad,
primitive but evolved…
and i can’t help
but go crazy in rapture
in your wake.
thank you to all my deities, many of whom are reading this right now.
HOLY SHIT!
lookit the date, you Discordians. beware the Ides of Saint! and the Ides of May! and the Ides of Saint Mae!
thanks to scenequeen, who is totally hot, for reminding me. hail Eris!
well, my grandfather got his latest issue of the Yates Center, Kansas newspaper… and apparently, them tornaders hit town, mostly causing rural damage. lots of pictures. awful.
my grandfather’s mum and dad moved there when he was a boy. so i consider that place a sort of ancestral home… a second hometown for me, even though i’ve only been there a few times. but i still miss that place. the long, flat brown land. the smell of boll weevils and silkmoths. longhot summerdays spent making balsa-wood aeroplanes (aeroplanes being another thing that was heavy in my family, being from Dayton, Ohio meself and my grandpop’s having flown a C-47 over the skies of Europe during the Second Great War (WWII)). my great-grandfather’s old work shoes and trousers he’d never throw away because he could always mow the yard in ’em. Aunt Selma and Uncle Dean, legless and always with a crazy and usually racy novelty toy to show me… the one i remember most vividly being a yellow plastic strongman statuette that would pee on you if you tried to pick it up… or a dirty joke. all now long gone, and more now gone still. the local department store, a giant regional sort of bastard child of Sam Walton and mom & pop stores, where i’d go to get my first model cars (a Pinto hatchback of all things and a ’69 Chevy Nova – my first two cars, coincidentally). those hot, hot days with neither hill nor vale to keep you from the intense heat the wind would scatter and lay down at your chest as if some sort of accidental backwards offering you never wanted (“i said DON’T bring me heat, and you went and DONE brought me heat, you ol’ wind you!”).
the flat brown goodearth of Yates Center, Kansas.
my grandmother’s people were from Denver, and our Ancestors rode across Oklahoma as pioneers. there’s a clock on our mantelpiece that came across America with those verysame people. it’s a good clock, and has seen a lot of time go by. you’d never know it was so old because it looks like a reproduction. but it was there and it saw things and hardships that you and i will never know about.
old land, old places, old people, old things, old old old old old.
ancient land, ancient places, ancient things, ancient faces. ancient, ancient, ancient, ancient, ancient.
“Welcome to Yates Center, Kansas”
1) sliced up mars into editable chunks, with commented microinstructions
2) soooooo horny
3) i made some tweaks to the mars code, and now the right-side menu wrapper images are a little funky and appear busted up. grr.
4) no, seriously, i need it
5) Cat called me today and again we skirted The Issue. this is just going to get worse and worse until it explodes, and then it’s going to be terrible for everyone involved.
6) skritch skratch!
7) my sleep schedule these days seems to be pretty stable. the problem is that it’s half at night and half in the day. at least i’m sleeping within the margins of a good amount.
8) give it to me now.
9) edited the background images for the new mars skins, but still haven’t bothered to integrate yet.
10) mmm… skiiiiiin….
you know what sucks? there just doesn’t seem to be a great assortment of really FUN spells when you’re like me and vehemently adhere to the Wiccan Rede.
(and yes, i know that so-called “Wicca” is nothing more than a modern-day con ripped off from the G.D. and designed to sell really awful books by people with really fuckin’ ridiculous names like “Lady Jasmine Starfire” and the like.)
fixed latest local version of the touristbureau skin. all i had to do was take out the “width:100%” from the “content” and “opaque” classes in the CSS. also moved the logo over to where it is supposed to be, since it somehow managed to skrink to the left by 180 pixels (right where it was supposed to be, according to the CSS… why did i do that, anyway? maybe the position didn’t get inherited in the last version for some reason). funny how the code actually was almost exactly the same as the one online. the only difference was that now i have a little xhtml-compliant logo in the newest version. must be something to do with the xhtml doctype (?).
so now that i have that fixed, it’s on (FINALLY!!) to putting together the other new skins. i should have a total of about ten by the time the weekend is through. i said that last week though.
still don’t know how i plan on distributing it. i want to charge a minimal fee for the full versions, and for additional skins. maybe $5 for the full version, and $1 each for skins? would i be selling myself short, or would i be yet another corporate fascist?
1) pretty much fixed everything (even got my MySQL data restored, tho’ it’s an older backup), but the local version of the touristbureau skin is a little funky in MSIE for some reason. content strays off-page to the left, oddly enough. will analyse CSS and determine the problem.
2) i want to have sex with you. ALL of you.
suhWEET! problem noted in last entry has been resolved!
i forgot to wrap the header(“content-type:text/css”); in php delimitors! (should’ve been <? header(“content-type:text/css”); ?>
big props to the fine folks running Bugzilla!
GOOD GOD!!!
i have just learned that in Mozilla, stylesheets are completely ignored if
, and
!!!!!
…now what the fuck?!?!!
submitted a bug.
so my host’s server crashed the other day… YET AGAIN… and now i’m left with no MySQL data (except for the php-nuke site, which i abandoned months ago and has since been hacked and i don’t care). which means that most of my site is broken. which means that i have to try and hope that my last backup has useful data in it. but i know damn well that i probably don’t have enough data because i was expecting to have the DB structure intact but the whole fucking thing is just gone. just… gone. so now most of my site is just fucked. just fucked. just like that. fucked. all because whatever server i happen to be on with whatever host i’m with will always be the worst fucking server in the world, and if i change lanes now, then the one i was in before will be the one to suddenly speed up.
and it’s been a few days now like this already, and i just don’t feel up to fixing it ALL OVER AGAIN.
here’s the new backgrounds i’m working on putting into new skins for mars. the default page has no background, and the others may take a few seconds to load.
some of these need tweaking a bit (in particular, one where the top row of pixels turned out the wrong color once compressed, and i ended up getting a sample from that for the RGB code for the background color. i need to crop the top and resample an RGB hex.)
*ahem*
when i say that i want to “be your dog,” what i mean is that i want you to:
hope that clears things up a bit.
HOLY GOD! Firebird ROCKS!!! be sure to get all the cool extensions, ESPECIALLY stumbleupon!
