Q: what [virus] could cause a PC to make farting noises through the speakers, about every hour or so, even when the mute is on?

Among the things that he has done for a laugh are minor fractures, cuts, scrapes, and various scabs. Though she's quick to point out that they're no imbecile, we're fairly certain that he thinks the word means some kind of medieval pharmacist.
This is her latest home on teh internets - where jae stores their swear words, when they're not hurling them at the sun in vain.

oh sure, blame it on the computer.. no actually, there are separate volume controls for wave, midi (sw synth), cd player, line in, etc. .. it’s probably the midi.. but good luck figuring out what’s causing it. what OS you running these days?
i checked, and “mute all” was checked, and the NVidea NVMixer sound card was muted as well. it was a synthy bwaaaaaap, lowering in pitch over about two seconds, and very loud. i think it was definitely supposed to sound like a [robot] fart. actually, it sounded like fucking Voltron farting. hasn’t happened since. i unmuted sound and left the speakers on low. nothing. strange, non? it’s my GF’s eMachine, running XP (SP2) through a midshelf AMD.
Cheap unshielded speakers pick up radio signal.
definitely wasn’t RF interference. it sounded synthy and intentional, and only occurred about once an hour or so. hasn’t happened since.
