today i got in the mail a birthday present from my old friend Little Mary. it’s the book Zen and the Art of Making a Living: a Practical Guide for Creative Career Design.
look, i know a lot of you are tormented artists, tortured lost souls and the like, and i know you could use some help and practical advice for making a living in a way that will make you happier and healthier and also not in that coglike way where you’re only part of a machine and no more meaning is involved. you would do well to get this book.
Lisa, we’re going to read the hell out of this one and maybe even finally figure out a real good Plan for making this whole experience of Life on Earth workable.
i’ve complained so many times about how nobody ever gives you instructions on how to go about Doing Your Own Thing in a way that also happens to pay the bills.
this was very likely the best birthday present anyone ever gave me. massive props to Little Mary!
