an infuriating link, thanks to pope_guilty. i’m all for the dissolution of major-label record companies and the RIAA, and vast reform of the entertainment industry as a whole, but consider:
it accomplishes two things the record companies never could get right:
- fairness to consumers, and
- complete annihilation of the concept of getting paid to be an artist!
it also poses the question:
- does an artist’s work suffer if they have something better to eat that ramen? are starving artists truly the best kind?
more importantly, a legal question that perhaps got overlooked:
- is entertainment-slavery going to be legal?
