an enemy in love

wipe the rain off my hat
tears streaming, gleaming
down my swollen cheeks
an enemy in love, says i
how far to the next stable?
i asked the innkeeper for a penny
she did not leave me one
i’ll not return here
and when i do
i’ll steal some blankets
and a kiss from her brother
and leave one under the door
terrible thunder
BOOM! CRACK!
jump to rusty feet and MOVE man
along the aching back of night
cricklecrack under heel
temporarily waive this madness
with my thick potion
care for a drink, young Robin?
NASA, you old fool
you never made a rocket
like me.
